A WEEK TO TAKE IT EASY

The girls came home last Saturday and brought Cory with them. We had a fantastic few days together. We just hung out, played games, and rode our bikes. I managed to catch a few pictures of them.
Here they are all trying to squish Hannah on the couch. Too funny! We had to have Snickers cake for Naomi's 18th birthday, which we had missed. It was so scrumptious!Josh, Hannah and Brian spoiled us with a delicious supper of fries and chicken fingers.And Oscar presided over it all.

OUT WITH THE OLD...

Brian and I have discovered something important: Apparently summer vacation is not for relaxing at all. It's for doing house renovations! We've been wanting to replace our kitchen floor for quite a while now and we finally decided just to go ahead and get it done. So, Wednesday we got up prepared to spend the day working in the kitchen.
Brian and Josh tore up the old flooring. It wasn't as much work as we expected.We all worked together to install the new laminate flooring.

18!

Where has the time gone? Naomi is 18 today. Soon she will be on her own. Heading off to Ireland for a vacation, then settling in Kamloops. It seems like we were just bringing her home from the hospital and then letting her go with Grandma to have breakfast with the ladies. I remember her lying on the floor "reading" to her baby brother. Then her days in school where she was too shy to talk to anyone. Now she's become so confident and independent - exactly what we wanted for her. We are so proud of you Naomi. The world is yours to explore and enjoy. Go for it! We love you more than you can imagine.

A PROUD PARENTING MOMENT

I can't believe how the time has flown by. Yesterday Josh had his grade 10 graduation. Our school only goes up to grade 10, so next year he is off to Whitehorse to finish grades 11 & 12. There was a very nice ceremony for them at school. The Kaska teachers presented them each with a vest they had made and one of the elders gave them each some words of wisdom before sending them off. It was a much more emotional experience than I expected. I even felt a little teary eyed as Josh received his vest.Josh received the academic award for grade 10 also. I was very proud, especially when his report card showed his achievements. A's in all his academic subjects, except English, which was a B.Brian and I are also very proud of Josh for getting accepted into the Experiential Science program in grade 11. It is a highly competitive program to get into. Over 60 students applied for 32 positions. He will be attending in the second semester next year. The program concentrates all their grade 11 and 12 sciences into one semester. They do a lot of practical science, including a month-long trip to Vancouver Island where they can earn their scuba diving ticket. It is an amazing opportunity for him.
