SPOILING MYSELF
Something I have discovered since the new year is that although I LOVE running, it does not always love me. I have used my treadmill faithfully, but I have also learned that the running gait on the treadmill is quite different from what one normally uses when running down a road. I have suffered from plantar fasciitis in the last 6 weeks or so and the pounding on my feet on a long run aggravates it. After having been forced to stay off my feet for the last week Brian and I talked and decided that maybe something low impact like the elliptical machine would be just what I need. I went online and found this one at Canadian Tire for half price. I will be picking it up when I go into town in a couple weeks. I don't want to give up running because I really enjoy it, but maybe a break will make a big difference for me. Here's to a trimmer and thinner me!

HAPPY EASTER!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Easter. We are not doing too much here. Just some work on the house and relaxing. We will be having our Easter dinner on Sunday then Naomi heads back to Whitehorse on Monday. We have had such a nice visit with her, but I think she is getting anxious to get back to her regular routine. She is starting work at Please Mum again when she gets back.
We have been on spring break and will head back to school next Wednesday. It started out pretty rough with the kids and I being sick. Then Brian and I spent 2 days on our first aid course. But since then it has been wonderfully relaxing. A much needed rest. The sun has been shining and after around noon it is quite warm outside - as you can see Brian is enjoying his break immensely.

MY BABY'S BIRTHDAY!
Today marks Josh's 14th birthday. He woke up this morning so excited about his birthday. Presents had to be opened on our bed as soon as he could drag everyone else out of their nice comfy beds. We got him some Wii accessories. He had an added bonus - only half a day of school. The afternoon was report card conferences so he had extra time off. He brought home an excellent report card - straight A's. Unfortunately he is sick with a cold so he's feeling a little rough, but other than that he has had a fantastic day, complete with his favourite meal - fettuccine alfredo. Add to that belgian waffles with fruit and whipped cream for breakfast and you have an absolutely fantastic day. The great thing about our family is that on your birthday you get to choose what the whole family does in the evening. Josh chose Cranium, of course. He is such a wonderful son. He brings so much joy to our family.
12 years later he's taking up a lot more space:
We love you so much Josh - you are very special. Happy Birthday.

ONE OF THOSE YEARS
It seems that after last year and all the effort I put in to get myself into super athlete shape, this will be the year of injuries. I have been plagued by plantar fasciitis, quad pain, knee pain and today sciatica. And do you realize all this has happened within the last 2 months??? Some days I just feel so old. I was having a little pain in my gluteus area the last couple of days, but when I got up this morning it had moved right into the sciatic nerve - causing much pain. So, I spent the morning lying on the floor hoping that everything would simply heal itself. Unfortunately that didn't happen. I have walked around a little, but have generally been taking it really easy. One of the worst things is sitting because it puts pressure right on the nerve, but yet here I sit typing up this blog entry! I will be heading over to the health centre in the morning to get things checked out. I wouldn't mind this idleness if it was due to a real injury, but this kind of thing kills me. I haven't been able to run since last Tuesday and feel like my muscles are turning to mush. On the plus side, Brian has been fantastic - taking care of me and cooking supper tonight. Hmmm, maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.
