LIVING THE LIFE!

This has been the best weekend I've had in a long time. After all the relaxing I was able to do on Saturday, today was a day to get other things done. Brian bought himself a new bike in Whitehorse and we were dying to get out and put it to use. So this morning Brian and Josh did some work on Josh's bike. The brakes weren't working at all, making it impossible to go far on it. They got it all fixed up and then Brian and I headed out for a trail ride. One of our favourite things is biking through the trails in the woods. Josh's bike worked fairly well for me, but I was facing the whole thing with a range of only 3 gears in the middle of the range. We had a fantastic ride and arrived home without any major injuries. Just some muscle fatigue. We are hoping to get out again in a couple days, after our muscles get a good rest.

UPDATE: Josh had a fabulous time at the pilot workshop. They showed them the planes and then took them for rides. On his second time up Josh got to fly the plane. Talk about excitement!

WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?

I got up this morning to the sun streaming through the dining room window. It doesn't matter that it was only 7:00, it was promising to be a fabulous day. At around 8:00 I ventured out to the deck in my housecoat with my breakfast, coffee and a book snuggled under my arm. I had to run a few errands and when I came back I found Hannah lying on the deck soaking up the rays. Needless to say I quickly changed into shorts and tank top and joined her. This is by far the best way to spend a Saturday. We have been going out to the deck off and on all day. It is quite hot out though so you can only take it for a short time. I was just outside and the thermometer had reached 42 degrees. Unbelievable! I'm definitely not getting much done in the way of housework, but I figure it can be saved for a rainy day.
Hannah and I have been enjoying a very quiet house for the last couple of days. Brian and Josh are still in Whitehorse, but are due back this evening. They went on Thursday afternoon because Brian had meetings on Friday. Josh spent today doing a pilot's workshop. There was a workshop being put on for teenagers interested in becoming pilots. Josh was very eager to go. I hope it was everything he imagined and expected.
Only 3 more weeks left of school and lots of things to be done before then. All those storage rooms where everywhere just throws things during the year need to be organized. Classrooms need to be tidied up. And there are just too many fun activities coming up. After that we have a couple weeks before we leave for holidays - hopefully the weather will be great and we will get everything done that we have planned.

HAVING HEART PALPITATIONS

Happy Victoria Day Weekend. I love long weekends because Naomi has a chance to come home for a few days. She arrived home last night around 7:00. We snuggled up on the couch and watched 27 Dresses before I collapsed into bed. This morning Brian and I headed out to get another load of firewood. Then we spent most of the afternoon cutting it up and stacking it. During this time of back breaking work Naomi came and asked for the keys to the truck - she wanted to drive around with her friends. Somewhat reluctantly we handed them over. I don't mind her driving, but it's really scary to let her go by herself. I just kept telling myself that she earned the license and she is a good driver, but it didn't stop my heart from palpitating. I was so relieved when they got back home. I'm not sure I'm ready to venture into the realm of independent children.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ME

Happy Mother's Day! I started out the day with a couple hours all to myself before anyone else was out of bed - my favourite time of day. Brian and the kids eventually dragged themselves out of bed and made me a great breakfast. Then of course it was present time which is always exciting.

EXCITING TIMES IN ROSS RIVER

Just when I start to think that my life is boring something new and exciting always happens. Brian and I have been using our weekends to get our firewood ready for next winter. Brian like to compare us to the ants - always prepared, as opposed to the grasshoppers - waiting until the last minutes. This year we are trying to get ahead and have an extra year's worth of wood in the shed. So we left home at 8:00 this morning and loaded our truck with wood. By the time we returned home at 11:30 our arms were like jelly. In spite of that we went out after lunch and cut the wood up and stacked it neatly into our woodshed. What a relief when we finished at 4:00. I just wanted to head in and climb in a nice warm bath to soothe my tired, aching muscles. Just as I was heading in the door the town fire alarm went off. This often is just pulled as a prank, so I didn't think too much of it at first. But just as I was getting ready for the bath, I glanced out the window and saw billows of smoke at the end of our street. Since we were the ambulance crew on call we had to go. So much for the bath. Someone was having a campfire in their backyard and the wind picked up and made quite a big fire. It burned the abandoned house that was beside it as well as a chunk of the forest. We didn't have much to do, just be there in case of an emergency. But my body was already tired. Another 3 hours of standing around didn't do much to relieve the aches. After we were all done, we went to the restaurant for supper with the nurses. I finally got my bath at 9:00 pm! Hopefully tomorrow will be a more relaxing day that this one was.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Today marks Brian's 39th year. Happy Birthday! The girls bought him a movie he wanted and I bought him some new golf clubs (watch out guys, we are going to whip you this year!). Josh's present is still undisclosed because it was something he had to order. Hmmmm, what could it be??? We cooked him a brunch this morning and spent the rest of the day working on firewood.
